Public Sector HUB, Newcastle-Under-Lyme

N-U-Lyme

Situated in the heart of Newcastle-under-Lyme next to the picturesque Queens Gardens and the Historic Centre, the Public Sector Hub provides a new central location in which to combine the services delivered by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council.

Spread over four floors, the Hub integrates public services such as customer service facilities, the public library, Registrars office, families first facility, and the central police office, whilst also providing agile, open plan office spaces for both councils.

The Building seeks to integrate with the historic surrounding context, by utilising local materials and an appropriate and sympathetic scale, whilst providing a new key Civic Building of quality and distinction for Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The Building is designed with a fabric first approach to minimise heat loss from the building envelope in order to reduce energy consumption. Set in central Manchester, and located on the site formerly occupied by Elisabeth House, One St Peters Square (OSPS) is currently being redeveloped as a 13 storey office and retail/restaurant building.

A pre-let for 63,000 sq ft to take floors 11-13 has been agreed with accountancy firm KPMG. The remaining 210,000 sq ft floor area is to be let as grade A office space.

SCS were assigned by key client Carillion to complete perimeter column linings, core area works including lift lobby corridors, GRG troughs, metal frame plasterboard ceilings and bulkheads, and perforated metal suspended ceilings.

Sustainable development, local job creation and supporting local community projects were paramount to Argents requirements on the scheme. SCS committed to provide 3 apprentice and training opportunities, significantly contributing towards Carillions target of 14 placements.
