Mark,
I would like to confirm that SCS management worked in a proactive way with the LOR team on the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Project. From the outset the team played an integral part in the challenge to build the fastest hospital in the UK. Working with LOR, CHT and our other key subcontractors Mark and the team where able to achieve a fit out rate of over 700m² per week. This was only possible through the open approach that existed between LOR, CHT and SCS enabling integrated working and solutions to be worked without delay. I will look forward to working with the team again in the future.
Regards,
Darren

Laing O'Rourke Construction North
Alder Hey Childrens Health Park Project
West Cumberland Hospital

SCS Contract Scope:
SCS have added to recent success with key client Laing O’Rourke by securing the contract for West Cumberland Hospital, located in the outskirts of Whitehaven.
West Cumberland Hospital was the first purpose-built general hospital to be approved and constructed following the founding of the National Health Service in 1948, the original scheme was constructed by Laing O'Rourke. Opened by the Queen Mother in 1964 in Hensingham, Whitehaven, the state-of-the-art facilities were second to none. Times have changed and advancements in modern medicine and technology mean that, almost five decades later, West Cumberland Hospital no longer meets modern needs. The £90 million redevelopment of the hospital which is currently underway will see the biggest single investment in healthcare for West Cumbria in over half a century.
The build includes a mixture of 22,000m2 of new build and 5,500m2 refurbishment. The new buildings will be up to 3 storeys in height with some rooftop plant areas. The new build accommodation comprises of urgent care centre, radiology department, minor ops facilities, endoscopy department, medical investigations unit, outpatient facilities, acute assessment centre, coronary care unit, intensive care unit, 6 theatre operating suite, neo natal, pediatric out patient and in patient facility, special care bay unit, delivery suite, wards, canteen, cafe and main entrance area.
Given the location, key members of SCS site team relocated themselves in Whitehaven for the period of our contract works, ensuring a full time site set up. The scope of works included drylining partitions, including the construction of a technical hybrid corridor wall, metal framed plasterboard ceilings, plastering and lay in suspended ceilings. At peak output we employed over 80 site operatives at one time, wherever possible from in and around Whitehaven, in keeping with the trusts vision of boosting the local economy and contributing to the regeneration of the region.
